Google Technology User Groups get developers bit more closer to Google

GTUGs are user groups for people who are interested in Google’s developer technology; everything from the Android and App Engine platforms, to product APIs like the YouTube API and the Google Calendar API, to initiatives like OpenSocial.

A GTUG can take many forms — from just a few people getting together to watch latest video, to large gatherings with demos and lectures, to events like code sprints and hackathons and discussions on certain topics that are simply not available to the public domain.

The objective is to enable developers to share information, knowledge and experience with others both online and through regular meet-ups and events.

To promote the event organisers and volunteers offer goodies for participants. Giveaways include Google Technology User Group T-Shirts, Various Google O’Reilly Books, Pens, Stickers, Etc…

GTUG is growing by the day with new members joining each user group and new user groups sprouting at every corner of the world. To know about a GTUG near you, check this out: http://www.gtugs.org/directory.jsp

Is Google PageRank obsolete ?

Google PageRank is the search engine’s algorithmic measurement of the overall popularity of a website. PageRank is measured on a scale from zero to ten. New websites automatically get a 0/10 and the most popular websites can reach 10/10. This ranking is based upon the number of links that point to a website from outside sources.

Back links have lost their charm due to a numerous reasons. Though over the years PR algorithm has been revised to better the ranking process, spammers and black hat seo guys were able to workaround the roadblocks and better their rankings thereby getting more spam on the search results.

Moreover PR was not revised (perhaps not announced to the public yet) to accommodate user behaviour when web 3.0 was introduced. Social media and other marketing initiatives are gaining more popularity in attracting users to a website. Though Google is still a major contributor to website traffic, online users are relying more and more on community websites, social networking & web 3.0.

PR has lost its position as a measurement tool (at least within a small community of SEO/ webmasters) to judge the authority and relevancy of any website, since big budgets were capable of buying links that Google could not identify as to be a spam or not.

Google should be able to revamp the PR algorithm to improve the measurement capabilities and bring the PR system back to life. Perhaps take in account other means of measurements like, amount of traffic that hits the website each day, number of users landing on a page, how long they stay on the site, and how often they return back to the website.

Google Analytics can be used fairly to keep track of the above, and Google can make it mandatory for any website that needs to participate in the PR scheme to implement GA code on their site. Any site owner who is serious on SEO and traffic through Google would definitely abide by it.

Apart from this there could be other additions that can be done by the Googleplex team based on their years of research, and certainly the SEO community will be keeping their fingers crossed on PR capabilities.

Social groups have been a marketing medium ever since mankind started the practice of selling. In the virtual space, marketers have been trying various tactics to attract buyers to their websites and portals.

Gone are the days when we could start a website, do a bunch of seo optimization and wait for customers to walk in. Yes there still is room for business, but to keep with the changing world dynamics of sales, we need to have our strategy re-aligned to get out and reach our audience, get them to generate interest in what we have in store.

SEM and other online marketing techniques sought new strategies to keep themselves closer to where the crowd is. Analytics and similar traffic analysis applications assist in identifying the whereabouts of internet users, and most of them pointed to the virtual societies that formed a platform for online users to share their time with fellow users.

Social media marketing has become a cost-effective way to get visibility across the globe. As with any marketing technique, success comes with consistent, frequent, and long-term efforts. Social media like Twitter and Facebook has the major share of members online and is still growing.

Any news about products or services that can be indirectly and creatively put across as a message to the community will raise customer interest and stand a better chance to get converted, than usual marketing messages and advertisements.

Social media will keep on evolving and new giants might leap out as time moves by; surely this channel will continue to keep its share of participation in generating online business.
