Twitter and Facebook were once known to be the “in thing” for the youths! Time has revolutionised social media into a marketing channel for online businesses.

If your business stays away from social media, you literally lose your existence in both online and offline sales. Social media is now the place to voice opinions, thoughts, ideas and news for every business.

Google AdWords, Yahoo Search Marketing, and MSN AdCenter were the most sought after channels for advertising campaigns. Today the most cost-effective online advertising campaigns are the ones revolving around the social media giants like Twitter, facebook, linkedin etc. They are offering service for free, and quite like any online user who opts to try out anything “free” businesses are all after this “no cost” marketing strategy.

Twitter is being used by companies to keep their customers closer to them and keeps it as a portal to publish company news. A few companies use it for updating the customers about company deals and coupon codes.

Media habits of users would keep changing and new ones evolve as time passes by; being on the same track as the community will always win the carrots!!

Twitter has been in business for a while now, has got a lot of votes for and against using it as a platform to market your business. Regardless of this tug of war and the initial thoughts Jack Dorsey had in coming up with it, Twitter has turned out to be a great tool to expand your online influence.

Online businesses started trying out promotion on Twitter and though none were able to come up with benchmarks or results of their increased leads and profits as part of their twitter campaigns, many were able to win listeners to what they have to say. It’s a known fact that the more user interest generated in what you sell and service, more the chances to get them converted. This marketing rule is what drives businesses to keep their name boards updated in the social networking space.

Twitter has more than a million active  users now and will continue to grow; the more followers you carry means the more people interested to listen to you, and the more listeners you get would add up to more conversions. The business world is able to communicate and share their thoughts, provide pre/post sales support via Twitter that keeps them closer to its customers. Twitter also means that you need to be a good listener too, only then you get to know what your customer base would like to hear from you.
